This is probably irrelevent to the VAST majority of you,
but for some of the oldies who remember how we got our start, or who found us through Major Ynos's site the stuff beyond the jump is for you

So I don't know how many people remember back to the days before GamerAndy started up, but most of our original staff actually originated from the comment sections of that site. Mark would post something, and we would all immediately jump on him. Some would scream and call names, others would provide evidence to show how he was wrong, it was always interesting... Frustrating, but interesting.

Eventually I got fed up with it all and started THIS site (at blogspot to start), taking some of our writers (notably Hawkes and Matt and Brad) from the fray. Over the months we've had occasional run-ins with him, and frankly the author had gotten wierder and more frenetic until recently an article was put out by the infamous John Dvorak questioning the legitimacy of the site. This appears to have set off a chain reaction that has now led to the admission by the author that the site has been a joke the entire time, he does it in the comments in a very obvious way - Honestly, it's an interesting read - If you've been involved with this then I recommend you check it out.

Just wanted to go on the record here and say "Thanks" to the creator of MajorYnos.com for being so outrageous and obscenely biased that he spurred me out of my lethargic state of college boredom, and into the creation of an unbiased place for people to go for independent gaming news and commentary.

Like my mother always said: If you can't be a shining example, at least be a horrible warning.

Heres to you, Ynos

Yes I recall Hawkes really long goodbye speach on Ynos's site. I think every one of the staff has had a turn at bothering Ynos (myself included). Good times, but he was trying too hard to make us believe him.

That's hilarious! He was too good to be true - either writing from a padded cell or a farce, because he put way too much effort into it. I felt sorry for him. And in a way, it's sad to see him go.

Three chears to majorynos.com!

It served its purpose well. At first it was just a parody of the Microsoft PR site majornelson.com. Hopefully this will be a lesson for the PR folk up in Redmond in the future.

But Microsoft's 360 disasters just kept mounting up over the months. Any site that covers console news had two choices. Either ignore the 360 completely or honestly cover each disaster after seemingly endless disaster.

To say this site was created due to 'bias' on a site that was itself a parody of a PR site is pretty pathetic.

WoW,

I wouldn't say that. Yes Major Nelson's site is Xbox related PR, but there was really only once incident on that site that was Major (pun intended) PR piece of crap, and that was the infamous Xbox 360 vs. PS3 specs. That's what created "Mark Creig" in the first place.

At the time: The parody was not known, it was suspected, but "Mark" was very shrewd, and kept it close to his chest. He started making incredibly one-sided posts, which to the casual viewer seemed too outrageous to just let slide.

By the time the "parody" was figured out, we had already moved on from the site.

So if you think it's pathetic, that's your prerogative.

I always thought Ynos was a scream. Just when I started to have my fill of the MS P/R machine, I'd stop by Mark's site for a few laughs and a good brawl. I'll miss his lunacy.

I was a frequent visitor of that site too, and actually will miss putting ynos down and countering everything he wrote. I never really suspected he was a real journalist from the very beginning, but I did almost feel as if he was some insane fanboy who really did stick by what he wrote. Looks like I'll have to spend my time somewhere else now. :(

Strangly enough ASD.. have you noticed the link up top that says "FORUMS"?

:)

Hawkes November 28, 2005 02:02 PM

Did you guys notice that the word ynos backwords is Sony? First thing I saw when I saw the name of the website. Weird...

Nightfire November 28, 2005 03:57 PM

omg, alert the police! Ynos=sonY? nooooooooo

n00bnab00 November 28, 2005 07:22 PM

Of course the site was a joke! It started as a parody of majornelson.com and that stupid MS comparsion graphs.

Damn I'm going to miss the site now, always good for a laugh.

Hey guys ;)Man, it's been like 18 months since I closed the doors on GamerAndy.com....  Sure, there have been a few posts about where we happened to be at the time, but yeah....   And the show (GamerAndy Live!) did keep...
