Full stories about everything and anything ahead...
First: Use your wireless controller on your Windows PC!
Finally! This is great, because I was considering buying a wired controller for my PC, but now I can just use the two I have and the receiver. Awesome news for those who were considering buying a wired 360 controller.
Second: 360's Memory Unit: From 64mb to 256mb? Yay!
4x the capacity makes this worth it. I hope they don't overcharge. I was thinking of buying a memory card, decided not to, but if this comes out at the right price...
Third: The Microsoft Wii Division: Moore and Nelson lead.
Nelson pumped the Wii on his blog, in his GA interview, and Moore is endorsing it wherever he goes, calling it innovative. It looks like Microsoft and Nintendo are forming a close relationship, because Moore just keeps preaching: Why a PS3? Get a 360 and a Wii.
I personally think that this relationship is only better for people, not in any way worse. The 360 is the ultimate gaming machine, at the right price, too, and the Wii is a game machine with an innovative, fun controller. In combination, it's just so much fun for the same price as a PlayStation 3. Moore endorsing this also proves that Microsoft agrees: Nintendo is doing great things with the Wii.
Just a fun fact Nelson dropped in the GA podcast: The PS3 is larger and heavier than the original Xbox. The 360 and Wii are light, white, and stylish. Looks like Sony shot themselves in the foot, after all their fanboys went "OMG Xbox = big ugly!"...
Fourth: Multiple downloads for Xbox Live at the same time! Finally...
Boris Schneider (Senior Product Manager Xbox Platform and Accessories, Microsoft Germany) confirmed this upgrade for the end of May to Xbox Archiv. Features mentioned are background downloading and SIX, count 'em: SIX, parallel downloads. UPDATE: Scratch that, downloads go in a queue, not parallel. Nice job getting me pumped Xbox Archiv! Grrr!
Background downloading has been widely requested by the Xbox community. Looks like Microsoft is listening.
Fifth: Microsoft gives IGN another console comparison with latest stats.
And again, they show the 360 pumping out more performance power than the PS3. This is, however, Microsoft giving out this comparison. I wonder why they keep doing this: Nobody is going to take this as fact. I bet if Sony did the same tests, the PS3 would somehow end up on the top.
We need an independent study when both consoles have been released.
Sixth: Rockstar Vienna, responsible for Rockstar ports, shut down.
"This morning, as I came into work, I was greeted by security guards... It turned out Take-Two has closed their Rockstar Vienna office, effective immediately, 'due to the challenging environment facing the video game business and our Company during this platform transition.'"
I guess porting just isn't as important to them than dual-producing now. Which rocks, by the way.
Seventh: Wii WiFi to stick to Friend Codes.
This seems to annoy a lot of people. I've never handled the Friend Code process, so I wouldn't know. Guess I'll find out what it's like by the end of 2006.
Eight: Wii peripherals, they look good...
The Zapper, the classic Shell, the sensor bar... I don't know, it's just all getting me really hyped up for the Wii. All these neat peripherals just make the Wii seem like a very interactive machine, and it is, which is what makes it so unique... Rambling, I know.
Ninth: Kotaku makes Miyamoto justify the "Wii" name in 15 seconds!
He didn't finish in 15 seconds, but Kotaku was nice enough to give him a couple extra. Unlike everyone else they cut short. Fun. His hand symbol is also becoming a bit overused, even though it has only been used for three days, it isn't fun/funny and therefore I'm finding it annoying...
Tenth: eBayer selling a PlayStation 3 for $2,000... Woo!
Claimed to be a PS3 definite to be recieved at launch, whoever buys this is crazy. But you know someone will. And come launch day of the PS3, it won't show up in time and... whoever bought it will be quite upset.
Eleventh: Kotaku puts Miyamoto in a torture chamber and gets results.
Yeah, I'm kidding, anyway, some details were spoken about the Wii & DS.
"Some of the possibilities include using the touch screen and microphone input from the DS to effect Wii gameplay. Another possibility, he said, is to be able to download content from your Wii to your DS, edit it, and then upload it back to the console."
Miyamoto also revealed that the release date and price will likely be released before the Tokyo Game Show.
Twelfth: Miyamoto says maybe to Super Mario Bros. Galaxy as a launch title.
"[Galaxy] is progressing along quite well, but it's often said that when I get involved in a project I upend the tea table. I don't want to promise anything yet. But if it's not a launch title it will definitely be there within the first six months."
Miyamoto has been talking a lot since the Nintendo Press Conference - this is probably the worst. No Super Mario Bros. at launch! Ridiculous! I'm so sad... no, seriously, I'm crying here...
Thirteenth: Rainbow Six: Vegas E3 Demo footage. Amazing.
The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. But I have one problem. A lot of it is third person, and a lot if feels like GRAW. It looks like an indoor version of GRAW. We all love GRAW... but I think most people were hoping that Vegas would go back to its Black Arrow feel. We'll see how it turns out.
Either way, it looks amazing, and it plays amazing.
Fourteenth: Full Auto 2 E3 gameplay footage.
And it doesn't look impressive at all. I am one of the five people who enjoyed Full Auto on the 360. I thought, besides some shortcomings, the game was great fun, and I still slap it on every once in a while. When I heard it was going to the PlayStation 3, I was disappointed, but like everyone else, I kind of went.. "Eh, not the greatest loss ever. Let it go..."
Everybody was right: It looks almost the same, it plays almost the same, and besides some interesting new online modes, it's just Full Auto in a sequel shell. In an interview with Gamespot, a SEGA producer revealed that Full Auto is fully multi-platform, and the reason Full Auto 2 went to the PS3 was just strategic.
Meaning it should be coming back to the Xbox 360 as a true sequel, sometime in the future. Excellent.
Fifteenth: Super Mario Galaxy E3 gameplay footage.
I <3 Mario. This is like heaven to me. Interesting footage, but the news that it might not be coming at launch kind of makes this video bittersweet. Here's to hoping for Galaxy as a launch title!
Sixteenth: Lost Planet E3 trailer: The true beginning to next generation. I promise.
The game is absolutely gorgeous. A couple weeks ago, I declared that Lost Planet was the beginning of E3, which was the beginning of the next generation, and I was right. I totally believe that I had tons of foresight, because the Lost Planet demo, as everyone has said, is amazing. Everyone at E3 is also impressed by Lost Planet.
This trailer shows amazing graphics, the immensely fun gameplay, but also the elusive multiplayer! Which looks like some immensely fun, large-numbered cooperative play! I can't believe how fun that looked, and if the multiplayer ends up being half as fun as the demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace, then it'll have me hooked for quite a while.
Seventeenth: MGS4 + 360? Maybe.
It's a Microsoft Xbox 360 ad that covers two pages. On the right side of the two-page spread are the 360 logo and the slogan "Jump in." On the left page are these words, written in font that looks like handwriting: "Dear Mr. Kojima," forming the sentence "Dear Mr. Kojima, Jump in."
Again, more rumor. But very interesting, no matter if it is MGS, another title, or nothing at all. We'll see where this goes.
Eighteenth: Gates' daughter will test Viva Pinata!
This article is a great read into the man's thoughts on the future of gaming. It's interesting to note that his entire family plays games. Although many would pass this off as him just saying that because he's the head of Microsoft, I genuinely believe his family is addicted to Zuma.
It''s funny how his daughter is going to beta test Viva Pinata. He really is bringing himself into the next generation of gaming, in one form or another. Way to go, Bill!
Nineteenth: Rumors say EGM says Nintendo Wii is $249!
Kotaku warns: this is gossip at this point.
According to 4 Color Rebellion, the latest issue of EGM has posted this information on the Wii's price at launch, as well as some other details involving the price of virtual console games and Twilight Princess details:
• $249 Price tag •Virtual Console (we knew this) • 3d Controller (we knew this) • ALWAYS online (console is always online, even when OFF) • Built in speaker on the controller • No improved graphics on Virtual Console (as in, they aren't redoing the models, doesn't talk about framerates and such). • TG16 will have it's 1st party games out at launch, 3rd party will come later as demand increases. • Estimated prices for the VC are "a few dollars for NES, $5 for SNES and $10 for N64″ • VC games are pro-scan enabled. • $250 "seems appropriate" • More 3rd party exclusives than the Cube
$250 is a totally appropriate price, and I will definitely buy it for that cost. But I doubt it'll be $250. I'm going for classic Nintendo: $199.
Twentieth: Frame City Killer, cancelled! Noooo! Unnamed RPG taking its place.
I was really kind of looking forward to Frame City Killer, but Bandai-Namco says an unnamed RPG will be taking its place in the 360 lineup. This looked like an interesting game... Ah well, that YTMND is fun.
It seemed like the game was really far into development. This must have been a major decision.
Rest in piece, FCK, rest in piece.
Twenty-first: Incognito had 10 days, count 'em: 10, to make Warhawk tilt-compatible.
I'll express my opinion on this at a later date, in an editorial about E3... Let me just say this, though: more proof that Sony is using E3 as one big gimmick.
We already knew this, but its fun to have it confirmed by Incognito themselves.
Twenty-second: Lovely Heavenly Sword footage.
This game... I don't know, it just looks incredibly fun and gorgeous. It's definitely a PS3 title I'll be watching, and if I do end up ever getting a PS3, this'll be the first game I get, that is, if it's available...
Twenty-third: Robin Williams makes a Spore creature that can slap its own... well, you'll see.
Spore footage never gets old, and Wright shows off Spore here just like all his other E3 demos. Still fun to watch. But the hilarity factor increases 10x when Robin Williams comes on and starts making his own creature. I won't spoil the amazingly funny stuff for you. Watch it.
It's also cool to hear that Williams actually plays games. He's a huge FPS fan and enjoys playing on the 360 and on Live. He plays Halo & Halo 2, and, even though this sounds like a celebrity pimping, Robin Williams is just plain great. Ya gotta respect the man and its even better that he's truly a gamer.
And finally...
As you should know by now, our very own Edie Sellers has finally decided that the Xbox 360 is going to be the latest in her console collection. I'm here to tell you she is not the only one that is turning away from Sony this next generation. Kyle, our Sony writer, has decided to "Jump In" this fall, planning to purchase an Xbox 360 with the release of Gears of War. Expect an editorial on his impressions about this year's E3, including an extensive explanation of his sudden switch of interest, going from being a Sony gamer to an all around gamer, an excellent move!
Also expect an E3 editorial by yours truly, as I will spew my Microsoft-fanboy opinions on how E3 went for the three gaming giants, what I'll be buying, and when. Look forward to many E3 opinions coming from the GamerAndy team as E3 wraps up, as well within the week following the huge event...
Game on!
Kyle's jumping ship to the 360...? Geez, now I know Sony's in trouble....Kyle was a huuuuuge Sony supporter.
:) I wouldn't call it jumping ship, I've realized that this generation there are other good gaming systems besides the PS3. Don't get me wrong, I'll be picking one up eventually, once the price for the 60GB version drops to $400.
The link you give for the Microsoft / Sony stat comparision is IGN coverage from a year ago. Just look at the graphics... it says E3 2005. Was there actually a new stat comparision?
Shoot yeah, there was one... I guess they removed it because of criticism? I can't find it now.
It said almost the same things, except in less detail and with different PS3 stats.
