Help promote indie news and podcasting by digging last night's episode at digg.com Hey all! Andy here with another episode of GamerAndy Live! This week, Andy, Hawkes and George are joined by Xbox Live's Major Nelson to talk about some of the drama that's been going on over at his blog Additionally, we talk about stuff he doesn't know about and make the mistake of mentioning the infamous Major Nelson headsets (which drives the chatroom into a frothy frenzy). In the second hour, we take listener calls and talk with GamerAndy.com's Allan about how the rating systems work "Down Under." This was a fun episode guys :) Check it out and let us know what you think on the forums. Remember, every episode of GamerAndy Live! will be broadcast live as we record it over at Allgames on Thursdays at 7 p.m. PST/10 p.m. EST. To download, you can use one of the below links in your favorite podcast/blogcast tool. podcast.png xml.gif badge_itunes.gif Or download the MP3 here Shownotes after the jump

dante of smeg June 29, 2006 11:46 PM

I'm glad this got up so fast! Since I missed the first hour I felt dissapointed I would have to go without it for a while. Good stuff.

Robotkio June 30, 2006 03:33 AM

Sounds like an excellent podcast guys, I can't wait to get home and listen.

Nick June 30, 2006 03:52 AM

is there no mp3 download?

Ben June 30, 2006 04:28 AM

is there no mp3 download?

Ben June 30, 2006 04:36 AM

Oh yeah Ben, you're right. Hey Andy, can you possibly get the mp3 up on the site? I don't have iTunes.

Nick June 30, 2006 04:49 AM

Damn, that's what I get for missing the live broadcast!

HeartbreakRidge June 30, 2006 06:35 AM

Damn Andy, the GA podcast is really taking a beating over on Major Nelson's blog.

Nick July 1, 2006 03:50 AM

I know Nick,
And I realize that our style of podcasting is a little.... off the cuff at times - that said (as I said over at MN's) we really do have alot more technical hurdles to overcome. The average podcast out there is a) pre-recorded and b) has most/all the participants in the same room

Even All Games Interactive still has the advantage of having everybody in the same room. The sad truth of the matter is that with the way technology currently is, it's pretty much impossible to have good sound quality and a skpe connection - just doesnt happen

:) You guys know that, but alot of the MN trolls don't understand the difference...

Andy July 1, 2006 10:58 AM

Well regardless, I still love those damn GA podcasts.

Nick July 1, 2006 01:27 PM

I have to ask you guys, please don't say nigga over the air any more (1 hour 8 minutes into the podcast). It's offensive.

MO July 1, 2006 02:31 PM

MO -
Totally agree, hawkes was just messing and and I *totally* didn't notice, but your right. While we don't censor ourselves I do agree with you that racial epithets are totally inappropriate under the circumstances

Thanks for pointing it out, it won't happen again

Andy July 1, 2006 04:57 PM

Andy you have nothing to apologize for.

MO, I'M the one who’s sorry. I said it, and I realized I had said it and was going to immediately apologize but I was afraid that if I pointed it out it would only make it worse. Yes instead of facing my mistake, I was a coward and I apologize for that as well.

It was not meant as offensive, it was really meant as parody but came off poorly as I had a completely different word in mind when I was starting to speak.

Again, my apologies, it will NOT happen again, and I certainly meant no offense or inference. Also: Gamer Andy and it's affiliates cannot control the Hawkes, as the Hawkes can barely control himself.

Hawkes July 2, 2006 04:28 AM

Hey all, listening to the show right now, thank the internet gods for MP3, sofar so good, only thing annoying is the voice distortion, any way you guys in the next show (and all future shows) make the people on the phones distortion-free?

Brandon Atkinson July 2, 2006 07:47 AM

Brandon,
hate to do this but LOL
yeah, chances are thats not gonna happen - The technology just isn't at a place right now where we're physically able to
A) Broadcast live
B) Have contributers from all over the world
C) Take live, toll free phone calls
and D) Not charge for these downloads

We run this show on precisely a $0 budget, so unfortunately we're not able to guarantee sound quality will be top notch

Sorry

:/

Andy July 2, 2006 07:50 AM

ok, no prob. thanks for answering so fast. good show btw.

Brandon Atkinson July 2, 2006 08:12 AM

The podcast was great who cares about slight distortion , I could hear you well enough to understand it and it had few technical glitches. The music breaks help the show as well.
The MN trolls can go hang. Its a great show and the live format makes it more fun...
--------------------------
As for Mo
"I have to ask you guys, please don't say nigga over the air any more (1 hour 8 minutes into the podcast). It's offensive."

How can you moan about the N word when you'll posting as MO .... I imagine GLAD would be offended by that.http://www.glad.org/

If you want to start censoring what people say, then I suggest you move to a country that doesn't have freedom of speach, just read up on china.

I also feel that the N word has lost all of it meaning, is it really as bad as it was 30 years ago.
N word is used so much in films, as a greating or term of friendship. Its only when people start moaning about it does it gain power. (bit like freddie Kruger)
God if we banned that word , Spike lee would be out of work.

The amount of gay jokes that have been on the show , and no one said a word. Can they take a joke better?
God If we banned gay jokes, Kevin smith would be out of work.

Oh and no one mentioned the midget jokes either.

Maybe if we offended every group possible in one show, Satan will raise from hell and force them to bring back firefly. Hell, we can upset the christian, they have to forgive us.
God If we banned religous jokes, Sarah Silverman would be out of work. (greg the bunny rulez)

Sorry this has turned in to a comedy rant, hope I didn't offend.
--------------
At the end of the day ,I feel it's a mature show so anything goes.As long as there are no virgin sacrifices , well be cool.

I don't want to tune in next week to find the podcast sounding like a pta meeting in the local church.
"I say hawkes, would you be kind enough to pass me the tea and scones old bean"

Laterz you c*ck jockeys.
Dante
hope I havent gone to far..

Dante of Smeg July 2, 2006 01:07 PM

I was kinda wondering about the quality. This is the first podcast I've listened to from this site, and the quality and distortion was noticable to the point where it was difficult listen in one sitting.

But that you mentioned a skype connection or not having everyone in the same location explains everything. That's gotta difficult. I just kept thinking while I was listening, that maybe some of you had better mics than others.

Anyway, I'll probably continue to check out the show from now on.

Just Me July 3, 2006 06:59 PM

Major Nelson's podcast got me over to gamerandy.com. I enjoyed the podcast because it has a "real" feel to it. It doesn't seem preplanned and I feel like i'm not being sold to. Other podcast come off as fake. I think it's good that you have a producer to crack the whip and keep everyone on track. Can you tell me where you get that song you played during the first break? You can chill, read or study to that track.

chris July 3, 2006 11:27 PM

Hawkes, thanks for the apology. I am black and I realize that you were making an ill-advised attempt at humor and I took it as such. I cringed when i heard it but quickly realized that you were just trying to be funny and failed miserably (like many of often fail at humor regardless of race).

As for Dante of Smeg, the more you try to analyze the N-Word and tell people "it means nothing anymore, so learn to take a joke" the more you piss people off. So just learn to live with the fact that white people shoudn't say the word, and black people are just as confused by the evolution of the word as everyone else, yet it remains very offensive when used in certain context. It one of those things you never fully understand so you should just leave the subject alone. Like how Paris Hilton, Sandra Berhardt, and Star Jones ever became stars.

Will G July 5, 2006 09:37 PM

Hey which remix of the doors riders on the storm was the one you played in this show? It rocked !

Hey guys ;)Man, it's been like 18 months since I closed the doors on GamerAndy.com....  Sure, there have been a few posts about where we happened to be at the time, but yeah....   And the show (GamerAndy Live!) did keep...
