GamerAndy.com has recieved exclusive word from a source "in the know" who asked to remain anonymous that Red Octane is hard at work not only on a second PS2 iteration of their DDR-gone-electric gaming sensation, Guitar Hero, but also developing a version for the Xbox 360! When approached for comment, Microsoft declined as per their standard handling of unconfirmed information. Even taken with a grain of salt though, this is exciting to me.

If the Guitar Hero franchise comes to the 360, could we be seeing not only downloadable tracks and guitars via the marketplace, but perhaps also online play over XBox Live? Perhaps even "Ultimate Guitar Hero" tourneys? The possibilities are endless and the very idea has me (I'm one song away from completing GH on Expert) giddy at the possibility of schooling Hawkes with my wireless guitar controller.

Even so, this is unconfirmed by anybody outside our source and so should be taken with a grain of salt.
EDIT Let me clarify something here, I see lots of people out there reading this as "Guitar Hero 3 is Xbox360 Exclusive!". We have no idea if it is, but I would assume it's not. The only chunk of info we've got is that there is a version being created for the 360... This DOES NOT negate the very good chance that there is also a PS3 version in the works, it just didnt come up in the conversation

Your thoughts?

How convenient. I am actually in the process of earning money to buy GH for the PS2 after falling in love with it at Best Buy. I guess I have a wee bit more time to save up for it if it's coming out for the 360.

Hojo July 19, 2006 01:00 PM

it'd be one less killer franchise for Sony...

one song away from expert?  you're slacking, Andy :P

Matt July 19, 2006 01:20 PM

You have my attention, sir.

HeartbreakRidge July 19, 2006 01:25 PM

three words...

FUCKING ROCK ON!!!

I <3 guitar heros

Motorhead - Ace of Spades FTW!!!

Zak July 19, 2006 04:05 PM

Dude awesome thats gonna rock,

Mr.D July 19, 2006 05:27 PM

Never played it, is it that good?

8bucks50 July 19, 2006 08:38 PM

Wow, I really hope this comes true. This means I get to play one of the most fun party games without buying a PS3. Sony has three series' left that are catching my eye: MGS4, God of War, and Final Fantasy.

Kyle July 19, 2006 09:04 PM

School ME little boy?? Please.. I was in band (Bass player) You can't out-play the Hawkes!

Hawkes July 20, 2006 02:29 AM

This would be an excellent addition to the 360 line-up.

Bert July 20, 2006 02:31 AM

This is great news.

This can get TONS of new 360 users, and if Live play is integrated, it will boost Live users as well.

M$ better be smart and offer the option of buying the game with a wired guitar, and even though they don't license the wireless tech to third parties, they should help with making a wireless guitar available as well.

I can't wait.

Lucas July 20, 2006 10:40 AM

Where did you get this info from I know some guys over at RedOctane and there is only a PS2 version in the works for right now. They have only said that it would be natural for the game to go next gen at some point, but it is only slated for PS2 for right now. Get your facts straight.

Steven July 20, 2006 10:40 AM

if the guitar is wireless, i will gladly upgrade!!

murph July 20, 2006 10:41 AM

to paraphrase;

"Strike Sony down with all of your crossplatform applications and your journey towards the dark side will be complete."

George July 20, 2006 12:09 PM

Steven: Had a long conversation with somebody at an involved party about this, you should know the drill by now though - This is the sort of thing that when it gets leaked, if the person who leaked it gets found out, bad things happen to their professional career. Thus we don't say who... Ultimately, it's unconfirmed by the company so it's classified as "Rumor"

I personally believe it because the source is good, but you don't have the luxury of that knowledge so take it with a grain of salt.

Andy July 20, 2006 12:50 PM

Bloody awesome! GH for PS2 is our best scoring game ever and I can only dream about how good it would look on a 360. Thanks for the "rumour"!

Andrew July 20, 2006 01:50 PM

I like that Andy said that this info is still "unconfirmed" and it "should be taken with a grain of salt" but still got told to get his facts straight.
More like, align your rumours so they're less crooked.

8bucks50 July 20, 2006 02:12 PM

Well I heard from a VERY reliable source that gamer Andy was a homo. I had a long conversation with somebody at an involved party about this. Ultimately, it's unconfirmed by Andy so it's classified as "Rumor"

Gimpy McGee July 20, 2006 03:11 PM

But Gimpy,

How is Andy a homo? I have photographic evidence of Andy banging your mom last night. You may not recognize her when you get home because he had to shave her back.

Maj Malfunction July 20, 2006 03:44 PM

Now now Major,
lets leave Gimpy's mom out of it... She's a nice lady once you get to know her...

;)

Andy July 20, 2006 03:49 PM

I might actually try the game if it came out for 360. I don't like buying PS2 games anymore.

SuicideNinja July 20, 2006 03:57 PM

Gimpy McGee is mean today.

GameJerk July 20, 2006 04:01 PM

This is great it just brings more interactiveness to the Xbox 360, which I dont think it would hurt to add Guitar Hero.

The Milkman July 21, 2006 01:37 AM

Is it bad that ive never played guitar hero no have I ever had the urge to play it?

brian July 21, 2006 06:45 AM

I would pee myself! I'd buy all the downloadable songs, guitars & outfits, I'd rock with my wireless controller, jumping off my couch with a kick in the air!

Ujn July 21, 2006 07:04 AM

I overheard a Red Octane employee on a plane on the way to e3 that they are developing DRUM HERO. It will have a 'controller' with a snare and toms and a cymbal or two. That's a game I would buy!!
--not one for listening in but he was shouting it at the top of his lungs practically. In a plane with many developers in it... not so smart.

cheebo July 21, 2006 09:52 AM

Rock On! Pantera - Cowboys From Hell , Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood, and Helmet - Unsung on Expert difficulty!!! Baby!

IndianaYankee July 21, 2006 11:39 AM

I *just* finished Frankenstein by the edgar winter group on expert... Woof, what a beast

Andy July 21, 2006 12:42 PM

Heh, I used to kill that on air drums when I was a kid, Andy. Now, if they would just make Drum Hero, we could start a band. ;)

Sharon July 21, 2006 05:13 PM

See, that's what I keep telling everyone. You can have Guitar Hero on guitar, Donkey Conga as the drummer, Kareoke Revolution as the lead singer, Beatmania mixing it all together, DDR backup dancers and the Eye Toy recording the whole thing for the music video!

Hey guys ;)Man, it's been like 18 months since I closed the doors on GamerAndy.com....  Sure, there have been a few posts about where we happened to be at the time, but yeah....   And the show (GamerAndy Live!) did keep...
