guitar_revolution_teaser.jpgGamespot reports:

"The trademark, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office on June 29, is littered with selected keywords and phrases used to describe the company's new endeavor. Among the trademark's listed descriptions are "video game controller in the form of an electronic toy guitar, sold as a unit," "stand alone electronic game machines with electronic toy guitars," and "coin-operated video games.""

As a Guitar Hero freak, I'd actually love to see a competitor on the market. Sure, it'll be another $70-$80 game with another weird contoller, but it's always nice to have alternatives (not that I'm leaving GH or GH2 behind anytime soon). Here's hoping Konami doesn't pull a "Karaoke Revolution" with this one and just totally screw it up or make it an arcade-only game.
While we're on the subject, though, how about some suggestions as to what Konami should add and/or take out of the Guitar Hero formula for Guitar Revolution? I'd love to be able to do string bends and pick slides just like I do on my real guitar, and it's not too far-fetched for Konami to throw those features into a controller. Also, give us some of that crazy Japanese rock, Konami - we can handle it, and some rythym/music game enthusiasts (me) are tired of you "Americanizing" your US ports too much.
What are your suggestions, dear readers? Leave them in the comments section and maybe we'll have some of our ideas put in the game (right after pigs start sprouting wings and flying).

Game ON!

I dunno if I'd want them to chang anything as it is. I mean the closer it gets to a real guitar the closer I get to saying, screw it, and just buying myself a guitar. Then again I wouldn't be opposed to new stuff entirely. Then again I would have to get a new controler and I'd rather not see the one we have now put out to pasture because I couldn't do string bends with it.

I do hope they change the scrolling notes thing, though. If I play for a long time my vission goes all weird for a bit.

As for music I'd like to see some Joe Satriani, Steve Vai or Andy Timmons on it. I have a sneaking hunch I won't, though.

As a guitarist and guitar enthusiast, Guitar Hero has immense appeal to me. Unfortunatley, I'll never own it as I only have an Xbox. So I'd be in favor of any sequels or clones that support the Xbox 1. Also, I think they should change the top-down scrolling of the music to a more traditional right to left scroll. It'd be less confusing, methinks.

As an aside, here are some artists I'd love to rip off in a Guitar Hero clone:

- Hendrix
- Angus Young
- Colin James (probably never happen, from what I hear the makers of GH aren't much into blues)
- John Pizzarellis (see above and replace blues with jazz)
- Ben Harper
- Franz Ferdinand
- Axl Rose (are G'n'R songs already in GH?)
- John Lee Hooker
- Carl Perkins (lead guitar for Johnny Cash's band)
- Muddy Waters & Howlin' Wolf
- Brian May
- Taj Mahal
- KG of Tenacious D fame

No G'n'R. The song list is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_hero#Song_list

All the main songs are/were pretty main stream it seems. The bonus tracks are a bit different. One of the songs, Get Ready 2 Rokk by Freezpop isn't what I would call rock so I think there's hope for jazz yet.

I guess we won't know untill they release the full song list for GH2. They have a few of them on the wikipedia page though. Just a little further down.

I would assume that this would just be the US name of the game "Guitar Freaks" which Guitar Hero actually ripped off. Guitar Freaks came many many years ago in Japan both in arcade and PS2 form (with controller), and did get a limited US arcade release which flopped.

I would assume the same, Bobby, but if I recall, Guitar Freaks had a different controller/control scheme?  I might be wrong.  If it is just a rebranding of Guitar Freaks, though, I have very low hopes for this game, because you really can't top Guitar Hero if you're going to "Americanize" a game, and everyone knows what Konami does to their games when they bring them to the US...
