So, I'm expecting an early november launch for the Wii.
Or at least, I was until a few hours ago when I read the insanely overhyped, previously embargoed story on Joystiq about the production of the main chip in the Nintendo's latest console.
From the article:
Commentary and fun-poking after the jump
For all my blustering about Nintendo playing badmitton to Sony and Microsoft's grudge-match football, Nintendo Will be competing with Sony come November.... In a roundabout way. I don't really imagine anyone out there going "Well, now that I have this Wii I have a complete gaming experiance". That said, I do see people (after spending 700 dollars on a PS3 with 1 game) thinking "Maybe I shouldn't spend another 200 dollars on a console i'm not sure about.
Because thats the way it is.
Like it or not, 99% of us havn't actually played around with a Wii (myself excluded) and, dare I say, there are even some of us (myself included) who still get a giggle over Nintendo's unfortunate naming convention.
The PS3 on the other hand? Shit, for 600 bucks it better be solid gold. For the people out there who are really jonesing to pony up that much money for a PS3, I suspect many of them will sit out the Wii craze until they can refill the coffers again.... So whats the logical thing for Nintendo to do? Launch early! If they launch in the middle of October (which, according to the news from IBM that sparked this article, they could easily do) the console would sweep the market in a relatively competition free enviroment... Except Splinter Cell: Double Agent....

P.S. I am friggin tickled pink at Joystiq's hasty 3am appology for hyping the shit out of a pretty mundane story... I guess 600 hateful comments in 30 minutes got 'em a little nervous. Go on now, run back to mother AOL...
That is tragic! I feel Unclean!
Thabathabathabathabarip
Pee uwe!!!
That was worth the excitement!!!;)
I hope the Wii launches in october. Maybe it will launch with Luigi's mansion 2 close to halloween.... more like Hallowii! Aww ya! That could be possible. Hallowii! Haha
"Like it or not, 99% of us havn't actually played around with a Wii[...]"
I don't think a whole lot of people have played the PS3, either.... unless you count the PS2 :p
His point is that more people played the PS3 than the Wii: I wasn't up for the 4-hour Wii line, but I got plenty of hands-on time with the many mediocre PS3 titles available.
Even so, only the small number of people who went to E3 got to play either console. My point is that the majority of the community who will be buying either console haven't played either console.
What I actually meant, was that the PS3 is a known commodity.
Everybody knows that you hold the controller, press buttons and stuff happens on the screen
The WIi is an unknown, because the very innovative features that will sell it aren't actually guaranteed to be fun. Ultimately, you're just waving a stick at your TV screaming "Crucio!"
Could it be fun? Shit yes
Is it a sure thing? Hell no
Does your average joe-sixpack gamer think its for kids? Yep
I agree completely, Andy.
