In a Recent Interview with The Age, Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, was discussing Sony's Plans for this Christmas but more importantly his views and opinons on Nintendo, Xbox and Handhelds and their affect on the current market.
More After The Jump........
While in discussion about Nintendo's Wii, which is shipping at a retail price of $399 in Aus, Ephraim's comments on the price are very hypocritical "Even though it's affordable, at $400 plus whatever you need to buy accessories-wise, I'm guessing you need to spend about $500 to take home a Wii and enjoy it" Ephraim goes on to say "For this Christmas, I think that price point is still not family entertainment because $500 is a lot to fork out" This is a tad rich coming from Managing Director of the corporation that is releasing a 1000 dollar system in Australia.
Ironically though it doesnt stop there: with his PRICEY comment he shares his opinion on the Xbox 360, saying it "appeals only to a very core group" and, at a little over AU$600, is "still pricey". I say its still cheaper then the PS3 mate.
But finally what takes the cake is his view on handhelds and the Nintendo DS: "The DS really appeals to a lot younger, very female skewed [audience], and the DS has done a fabulous job," Im sorry, I'm a twenty year old male and I own a DS as do two friends of the same age; do I not count?
You can view the interview at the following link; I leave it up to your own interpretation people...
{UPDATE} Ephraim has Respond to Media Frenzy in the following Article LINK , which proves yet again that the man is just a ignorant sony board member and its lines like the following that make you shake your head
"As we have said many times before, we missed out on many software sales when we walked away from the original PlayStation to launch PS2. We will be a multi-platform business (PS2, PSP, PS3) and we will treat each business unit with the respect it requires. You may not be purchasing your first console this Christmas but tens of thousands will be (in Australia). Sorry you didn't have the opportunity to buy a PS3 this year, but I'm sure it beats lining up in a queue for hours on end only to be told the store has sold out."
Right there with ya, mate. 36 year old male with a DS, and I know Hawkes has one as well.
You would think with the piss poor showing the PSP is having they'd take a lesson from the DS instead of trying to trivialize it's impact.
It's things like this that keeps me from spending 1 dollar on the PS3! They just can't seem to keep their fucking mouths shut, if and when I do finally decide to get a PS3 I will buy it and it's games used just so Sony won't make a dime off me or make me a # in their consoles sold bracket!

lol the fact that it appeals to young girls was nintendo's master stoke, how many little girls want a psp, and how many little girls are there? a shit ton of them. the psp is a useless artical anyway, just get an Archos for video and a DS for gaming, as who needs more than Advanced wars or mario cart on a long jorney.
Sony's lost touch with the gamer. They're just spouting out old stereotypes. "[Nintendo console] is for kids," "Xbox is for hardcore action/FPS gamers." We've heard all of this before...
