After two years of being number one, after two years of being the greatest multiplayer title out there for consoles, after two years of reigning supreme, and being the most played title on Xbox Live week after week...
Major Nelson brings us the news. Halo 2 has been dethroned. It is no longer the number one played title on Xbox Live. Gears of War is now champion. Gears of War is now king. This is truly a sign that Gears of War is the Xbox 360 killer app. that everyone hyped it up to be.

Before we get all "GoW is king" and "Halo2 is dead" now, let's take a second to remember that those numbers include Emergence Day numbers when prizes were on the line. Cheaters or not, a lot of GoW was played on E-Day.
If GoW is still on top next week, Halo fans can start to get concerned.
Not sure if it will last another week...but this is something. I had been warned that Halo2's numbers have been falling recently, but I still thought that the gap was significant enough from the Xbox 360 games to last through the holiday.
