Word of this comes from M3mnoch over at Addicting Entertainment, (a great place to find unconventional news and commentary).
He spotted an interesting trend on the official PS3 forums that was then backed up by the (I assume) EULA. Essentially it goes like this
Thats right, every "comparison thread" (thread that mentions one of the other consoles somewhere in it) is being promptly deleted.
While on the PlayStation3 forum, please keep all content related to the Playstation 3, its games and accessories, thanks.
Comparison threads about other consoles and their contents vs. PS3 aren't permitted on this board.
That's a little pissy ... I mean, I can understand if they want to keep it "on topic" but going so far as to delete the threads is a bit much. Especialy if they aren't turning into flame-fests.
They've been doing that for awhile now.
Who the FUCK cares if some one wants to compare, unless they are affraid of the trueth. Thats just sadd!!!!
I'd like to point out this doesn't happen on the UK PS forums. Just have a look, it's full of various fanboy shit:
It's not that they are afraid of the truth. Allowing discussions of competing machines leads to fanboys of said machines flocking to your forums and posting such pearls of wisdom as "Sony sux, MICROSOFT RULEZ L00ZERS!!!!1111eleven". You end up with flame wars and such and that runs off your legitimate, well-behaved users.
We don't allow comparisons of other cars to the MR2 on MR2OC becuase of this very reason. Not because we're scared, but because we are trying to run a fun, informative board without a lot of flames and idiotic rantings.
Other PS forums (PSP, PS2 etc.), last I checked, had no such restrictions in place. It's possible that due to the new console release generating so much negative feedback, they'd rather focus on their actual customers (or potential customers). Over in the UK, there is no PS3 (officially) to be compared, but they'll go into lockdown mode to (or at least until enough consoles ship to meet demand).
Note that threads where they discuss the difffering philosophies behind competing companies/consoles are still allowed on the boards. Just not ht the rampant fanboyism that plagued the PS forums in the past. Glad to see that they're finally moderating those to some extent instead of just ignoring them completely.
