UPDATE: Typekey implementation is being wonky, so I've disabled comments entirely again as I look into other options. Bear with us.
Hey all.
As many of you know, GamerAndy has been having some pretty major performance issues for the past few weeks. Through some careful detective work (and mostly Edie just spending way too much time on the phone with our host) we've discovered that the issues stem from comment spam.
What is comment spam, you ask? It occurs when an article of ours gets scooped by Google (or something) and it starts getting attacked by "spambots" that post bullshit comments. In small amounts, this isn't particularly bad and is considered just the cost of doing business. But GA has been around for long enough that we have a veritable plethora of spambots that just sit in our archives messing with us enough of these "comments" that they pretty much crash the site every day for a few hours as our back-end struggles to deal with them.
Long story short, Comments were disabled for a few days and are now slowly being brought back online with Typekey Authentication Yeah, that means you have to register with Typekey to post comments on GA. Sorry about this, but I figure spending five minutes registering at Typekey and having to log in every two weeks is preferable to having GA crash on a regular basis and be slow-as-shit when it is up. We're working on other solutions, but for now this is it. Any feedback you have on the new system is appreciated. Post in the *chuckle* comments, or if you're having problems with the new system you can always hit the forums.
